The Magic
On the first anniversary of Zach’s tragic accident, we have chosen to turn our overwhelming grief and sadness into an opportunity to spread joy and kindness. As you all know, Zach lived his life exuberantly, possessing immense love and kindness for everyone he encountered, every single day of his life. More than a hundred of Zach’s treasured friends and family celebrated his life and spread #thatzachmagic far and wide by executing random acts of kindness in his honor, thereby creating a ripple effect and spreading love in his memory.
Zach loved baseball and loved his teammates and coaches even more.
His baseball league, MOYSC, has chosen to honor Zach‘s spirit by naming their sportsmanship award in his honor.
The Zach Ramsey Pride award is presented to one player on each team (8u and older) at the end of the spring season. Unlike other honors that celebrate athletic performance, this award is voted on by fellow teammates and recognizes a player who represents the true heart of the game. This award honors the joy, sportsmanship, and spirit Zach brought to the field. Through it, his legacy lives on in every young player who chooses to lead with heart and lift others up.
Additionally, through Zach‘s Memorial fund, the Ramsey family chose to spread a little more of Zach Magic by randomly selecting one winner from each age group for a gift card valued at $300. Zach was a bit of a bougie kid and dreamed of owning all the hottest baseball drip out there. Zach would be thrilled to help these awesome kids fund a purchase of their choice- whether that’s a new bat, sunglasses, batting gloves, or any other gear or equipment; or tickets to go watch their favorite team play; or registration to a summer baseball camp they’d been eyeing, etc.

Zach loved stuffies and could hardly pass one up at the store. He wanted to take them home and show them all the love. The overwhelming generosity of those who attended his funeral gifted us with well over 350 stuffed animals- too many to count, actually, but there were nine, 55-gallon bags full! We chose to donate these to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). RMHC is committed to serving families through essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing. RMHC provides a “home-away-from-home” and gives families with a sick child what they need most – each other. The stuffed animals donated in Zach’s honor will give comfort and support to hundreds of families during a very difficult and stressful time. Zach knew a thing or two about being away from home for medical treatment and would be so pleased that his magic lives on to help sick children across Texas, cheering them on and giving them the comfort, strength and courage they need to continue their fight.
Zach loved giving gifts. In fact, even in death, Zach gave his corneal tissues to give two people sight and gave his heart valves & associated blood vessels to help one person with a defective or diseased heart. This was an easy decision for the family as Zach had just had a conversation with his mom back in May about what it meant to be an organ donor. Zach saw this note on his mom’s newly renewed driver's license and asked what it meant. She explained and without hesitation, he said, “that’s so cool. I want to do that when I die!” Zach possessed a heart so big that it inspired everyone around him to be better and to care more deeply about others.
